6 Cardiac ICCU at Forsyth Medical Center is a 21 bed mixed cardiac-intermediate telemetry unit. Our intermediate patient population mostly consists of post-operative cardiothoracic surgery & structural heart patients. This patient population includes open heart surgery & thoracotomy patients POD 1, TAVR & VATS surgeries from PACU, and esophagogastrectomy patients. This patient population requires the nurse to maintain a-lines, titratable gtts, BIPAP, trachs, heated high flow, epidurals & PCAs, temporary epicardial pacemakers, blake drains, chest tubes, etc. The cardiothoracic surgery patients downgrade to cardiac telemetry on the unit during their post-op recovery & stay with us until discharge home, accounting for the cardiac telemetry patient population on the unit.  In addition, we also take overflow cardiac and medical intermediate patients.
