Overview

NHFMC Neurosciences Unit is a 43-bed acute inpatient unit dedicated to the care of patients with stroke and other neurological and neurosurgical disorders, with 33 medical telemetry beds, 6 medical surgical beds, and 4 intermediate level epilepsy monitoring beds. Our unit Average Length of Stay is 4.7 days and the average patient age is 65.6. Adult patients who are 18 years of age or older are accepted to this unit. Patients for Epilepsy Monitoring must be 18 years of age or older. Care Delivery Method Services are provided by trained and competent team members. Clinical oversight, feedback and direct supervision are provided by Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) as well as a Nurse Manager who is 24 hour accountable operationally for team member performance and patient care. Nursing care is delivered using a staffing model of 5:1 for RN ratio and 7:1 for CNAs’ ratio, depending on the unit census.

Nursing Major Patient Population appropriate for admission to neurosciences: · Stroke (stabilized Ischemic and Hemorrhagic) · TIA · Stable Neurology and neurosurgery service patients · Neurology and Neurosurgery patients requiring medical telemetry and/or pulse oximetry monitoring · Medical surgical patient requiring telemetry

Qualifications

  • Education: 4 Year / Bachelors DegreePreferred. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license. In order to be considered for current licensure status, you must apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course.
  • Experience: One year relevant experience preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current RN licensure in appropriate state Required. Advanced certifications as required per facility Required.
  • Additional skills required:  Appropriate customer service, effective and appropriate customer relations, verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, conflict resolution, critical thinking and computer literacy. Advanced training as required by department.
