Are you looking for a new opportunity as a Surgical Oncologist/ Minimally Invasive Surgeon with a particular interest in esophageal cancer in a rapidly growing healthcare system that focuses on a culture of safety and team member growth?

 

Novant Health Cancer Institute is seeking a hospital employed Surgical Oncologist or Minimally Invasive Fellowship trained Surgeon to play a pivotal role in its minimally invasive Esophageal Cancer and Foregut Program.  Currently, the GI Surgical Oncology group consists of 2 surgeons and recruitment is with the ultimate intention of retirement succession planning of one surgeon. The group performs a variety of complex procedures pertaining to the oncologic care of esophagus, gastric, hepatobiliary, retroperitoneal and extremity soft tissue sarcoma, neuroendocrine tumors as well as some elective non-oncologic procedures such as minimally invasive foregut (Nissen fundoplication, Heller myotomy), hernias. Esophageal cancer care is provided concertedly with our minimally invasive Thoracic surgery colleagues. There is a separate breast surgical oncology team, colorectal oncology program, and emergent/acute care surgery team managing those respective processes.

 

Primary on-call (at-home) responsibilities for GI Surgical Oncologists are shared together with 3 mid-level providers. On-call and clinical coverage is at one hospital alone which is Novant’s 622 bed non-university tertiary care center in Charlotte. Novant Health is affiliated with University of North Carolina and an interest is medical student clinical education is a requirement. Clinical trial participation is also encouraged.

Requirements: 

 

Applicants should have completed/be completing fellowship with esophageal cancer training.  Robotic experience is preferred.

 

Beyond technical and clinical skill, the ideal applicant should be mild mannered and adept as a team player. Finally, they should possess an excellent bedside manner to complement these qualities.

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of medicine required
  • Completion of an accredited residency program required
  • For specialty physicians - completion of an accredited fellowship program specific to medical specialty

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Current MD license in appropriate state
  • board certification or eligibility
  • current DEA license required
