Medication Nurses (Med Pass RNs) are RNs who help clinical nurses on a designated unit with administering oral, SQ, IM and IV medications. They do not need to have recent bedside experience.
Medication Nurses usually work shortened shifts during heavy medication pass times.. This assistance relieves the RN to focus on patient assessments, care plans, education, and discharges.
Medication Nurses will receive specific training that will focus on all aspects of the medication administration process and work with a nurse on passing medications prior to working more
independently. The Med Pass RN also may assist on the unit as needed.
