Provides leadership in achieving ongoing corporate objectives including quality, financial vitality, employee and customer satisfaction. Key member on or lead Best Practice committees for laboratory services and throughout Novant Health. Is a key member who ensures compliance with regulatory agencies, recommends an appropriate organizational structure and personnel plan for the laboratory, assists with the development of an equipment plan for the laboratory and oversees execution of the plan, ensures that service level standards of the laboratory are met and assists with the preparation of and oversee department budgets.


The UVA Community Health System Laboratory Manager of Accreditation and Point of Care is responsible for leading and standardizing UVA Community Health laboratory quality, safety, regulatory readiness, compliance, and point of care testing. Additionally, the System Laboratory Manager of Accreditation and Point of care will develop and implement point of care testing strategies for UVA Community Health. Responsibilities include but are not limited to standardizing policies and procedures utilizing MediaLab, establishing appropriate metrics and quality management dashboard; provide education to enhance staff knowledge and accountability; proactively identify and mitigate potential areas of risk; assimilate with lean performance improvement initiatives; ensure accreditation programs are implemented and all regulatory requirements, include proficiency surveys are met. This individual will also design and lead point of care test planning processes. Works closely with both system and laboratory leadership to ensure standards are met and improvement initiatives are identified and executed in a timely manner. This individual has ultimate accountability for driving preeminence throughout the assigned areas and ensuring success within the organization. Acts as a leader on the laboratory leadership team and participates in the strategic planning and the attainment of goals for all areas of responsibility. This position reports to the UVA Community Health System Laboratory Director Pathology. This leader must be able to work effectively in a highly matrixed and relationship-driven culture.   • Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science or equivalent. Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technology/CLS program. Graduate Degree, preferred. Healthcare or quality related discipline. 
  • Experience: Eight years of relevant laboratory tech experience, with a minimum of three years of leadership experience And Five years quality/regulatory and point of care related experience, required. 
  • Licensure/Certification: Technologist/Scientist Cert from ASCP or AMT-MT, required. 
  • Additional Skills (required):
    • All individuals certified ASCP beginning January 1, 2004 must participate and maintain ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) through the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP). All individuals who are certified AMT beginning January 1, 2006 must participate and maintain AMT Certification Continuation Program (CCP). Qualifies as a General Supervisor under CLIA 88 guidelines. Current and future trends/practice in area of responsibility; regulatory and governing standards, policies and procedures; information systems and software used in area of responsibility; equipment used in performing assigned duties; application of safety and infection control policies and procedures; skills in interviewing and selection process; understanding of budgeting, staffing, payroll and purchasing processes; implementation of competency, feedback, development and progressive discipline processes; teambuilding, conflict management, and interpersonal relationship skills; principles of adult learning and teaching methods/models; decision making, project leadership and consultation, delegation and communication skills; understanding of customer needs and expectations and knowledge for improvement to exceed customer expectations. Prior demonstrated leadership.
  • Additional Skills (preferred):
    • Lean Six Sigma Yellow, Green or Black Belt
    • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ)
