The Data Governance Engineer III supports all organization-wide data governance activities and will be responsible for deploying key Data Governance processes that pertain to the sourcing, management, development and consumption of data assets across the enterprise. The position will focus on establishing and ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards and practices, both at the department and Business and Functional areas level, to achieve the required level of consistency, quality and protection to meet overall needs.
The Data Governance Engineer III will work closely with subject matter experts to improve the visibility and value of core data assets, respond to regulatory protection requirements as well as support the strategic requirements of DPS. Participates in the application and deployment of data policies and processes and their continued enforcement. Ensures that all data assets which are subject to the governance processes within the enterprise are catalogued. Supports the development and maintenance of an end to end data lifecycle management approach. Responsible for applying data governance framework including the management of data, operating model, data policies and standards as well as the application of clearly defined data management definitions for use across the enterprise. In addition, will have a role working with various stakeholders across the organization to achieve the goals defined in the data governance and data management strategies.
Primary responsibility and activity for the assessment, improvement, implementation, and support of the Novant Health Data Catalog and Business Glossary products. Works within and beyond area of control to implement improvement approaches recommended by DPS management, or various stakeholders. Analyzes business requirements and translates to technical requirements. Collaborates with Enterprise Architects, Data Platform Integration, other teams, and third-party vendors. Configures the Data Catalog and Business Glossary per requirement, following standards and design patterns, and extending the solution as needed. Applies problem-solving skills to address complex technical issues around the solution, and liaisons with vendors to diagnose and resolve potential defects. Works with Business Analysts and subject matter experts on processes to enable and ensure the Data Catalog and Business Glossary reflects accuracy and is a trusted resource. Validates the Data Catalog by comparing to the sources that are scanned and profiled, and the lineage reflects an accurate depiction of data flow. This may include accessing data sources and targets such as Azure Data Warehouse, Azure Data Lake Storage, SQL databases, Power BI reports, and Azure Analysis Services. Activates new and supports existing Data Catalog resources, enables profiling of data assets, and establishes data lineage and impact analysis. Develops custom resources when necessary to ingest data source metadata and an existing connector is not available. Applies and maintains tagging and classification of data assets to provide searchability and tracking of data, and to support data security workflows and the protection of sensitive data. Ensures best practices are implemented into the Data Governance architecture. Collaborates with Data Analytic team members and other Data Governance team members to support the development and maintenance of the Business Glossary, providing guidance and expertise. Expert knowledge of the integration between the Data Catalog, Business Glossary, and Data Quality systems and understands the impact that one has on the other. Implements best practices following policies, change management practices and procedures. Develops subject matter expertise of Novant Health Data Governance processes and how it impacts enterprise data development and consumption.
