Overview

Digital Products and Services team members are responsible for securely managing information systems throughout their lifecycle, including knowing what information systems are within their scope of responsibility, understanding what sensitive data is stored, transmitted, or processed on those information systems, enforcing the security principles of least privilege and least functionality, knowing what events may constitute a cybersecurity incident, and understanding their role in security incident response activities.The Network Engineer Associate assists with the design, installation and support of network communications for all of Novant, including LAN\WAN, wireless systems and remote clinical locations. Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations involving readily identifiable problems. Assist in planning of large scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost study. This particular associate position will also be working directly with the new Community Connect platforms and services and will be working on the security platforms associated with this new service offering for Novant Health. This position will also work with the Novant Health SOC/NOC to develop processes and procedures as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma, required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Technical school training or BS degree in electronics, preferred.
  • Experience: Two to four years related work experience, preferred. Technical school training, required.
  • Licensure/certification/registration: LAN/WAN/TCP/IP Security platforms required.
  • Additional skills required:
    • The Systems Engineer I position will be responsible for facilitating better communications and understanding of requirements between end users. They will create and document technical solutions and perform in-depth analysis of networking solutions.
    • Develops and maintains knowledge of the networking portfolio of products, yet is developing very deep expertise in assigned technology areas. Has strong knowledge of the networking products used in the Novant Health architecture and is expected to overcome technical objections via research and partnering with more senior-level experts and engineering resources.
    • Working knowledge of Industry wiring standards and network technologies, security platforms and services. Working knowledge of Visio, Excel and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of bridges, routers, switches and network topologies including LAN, WAN, fiber and industry wiring specifications. In Depth knowledge of network monitoring tools and protocols. Excellent organizational skills. Communicates clearly in a written and verbal format. Fluent in the use of network tools such as network analyzers and monitoring platforms such as Orion.
  • Additional Skills/Requirements (preferred):
    • Experience: 2+ years related experience. This may include technical support and hands-on installation in the computer technology industry. Networking product experience and/or relevant experience in key offerings in technology area of emphasis are preferred. Demonstrable experience in Solution Planning, Implementation and Operational background is preferred. Basic understanding and some knowledge of LAN/WAN networking technologies including TCP/IP, Layer 2 LAN switching, VLAN Spanning tree, HSRP/VRRP, routing protocols RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP and MPLS.
    • New hire must obtain a Wireless Certified Specialist certification within six months of employment. 
    • New Hire must obtain a Certified Networking certification within one year of employment.
    • New Hire must obtain a Bradford or NAC training certificate within 6 months of hire.
    • New hire must obtain network management certificate within 6 months of hire.
