The Registered Nurse serves as a leader of the healthcare team at Novant Health by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health or supports a peaceful death. The Registered Nurse utilizes best scientific evidence and compassion to assist the patient in navigating their health journey. 6 Cardiac ICCU at Forsyth Medical Center is a 21 bed mixed cardiac-intermediate telemetry unit. Our intermediate patient population mostly consists of post-operative cardiothoracic surgery & structural heart patients. This patient population includes open heart surgery & thoracotomy patients POD 1, TAVR & VATS surgeries from PACU, and esophagogastrectomy patients. This patient population requires the nurse to maintain a-lines, titratable gtts, BIPAP, trachs, heated high flow, epidurals & PCAs, temporary epicardial pacemakers, blake drains, chest tubes, etc. The cardiothoracic surgery patients downgrade to cardiac telemetry on the unit during their post-op recovery & stay with us until discharge home, accounting for the cardiac telemetry patient population on the unit. In addition, we also take overflow cardiac and medical intermediate patients. Nurse: patient ratios for intermediate patients vary from 1: 3-4. Bedside monitors in all rooms.

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license. In order to be considered for current licensure status, you must apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course.
• Experience: One year relevant experience preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: Current RN licensure in appropriate state required. 
• Additional Skills Required: Ability to manage cardiac patients, previous experience caring for critical care patients, knowledge of EKG rhythms.
• Additional Skills Preferred: Previous applicable progressive/telemetry and/or critical care experience.
