Overview

Performs and evaluates a variety of routine tests on clinical specimens. Utilizes accepted quality control techniques with the aid of automated, semi-automated and/or manual methodologies. Performs venipuncture, processing, and order and result entry as required.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, Required.
  • Experience: Six months work experience, Required. Phlebotomy experience, computer background, knowledge of medical terminology, formal training and/or experience performing routine laboratory testing; Preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Eligibility for phlebotomy certification, Preferred.
  • Additional Skills (required): Must be able to meet competency standards for the established menu of tests. Have the ability to interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs. Ability to operate equipment both at sitting levels and/or standing levels. Flexibility and adaptability to work additional hours or shifts. Effective communication skills—listening, writing, talking, reading, via telephone, and Lab Information System. Ability to work efficiently and accurately. Ability to organize and plan work. Work effectively under stress.
