Overview

Responsible for workflow supervision of all activities related to Decontamination, Packaging, Sterilization, Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement in compliance with the departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Adheres to best practice by following all regulatory, federal and state recommended practices and guidelines as stated by (but not limited to) AAMI (Association of Advancement of Medical Instrumentation), AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses), The JC (Joint Commission), CMS (Centers of Medicaid & Medicare), APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology) and SGNA (Society Gastrointestinal Nurses Association).

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED, required.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in Sterile Processing if certified, required. Minimum of five years' experience in Sterile Processing if not certified, required.
  • Licensure/certification: Recognized SPD Certification, required.
  • Additional skills required: This Technician must hold a certification from IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management) CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or Certification from CBSPD, CSPDT (Certified Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) or have 5 years of applicable experience in lieu of certification. Must Maintain either certification status and the annual educational hours required by each of the organizations. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation and sterile/aseptic technique. Ability to read and comprehend written instructions to assemble instrument sets and trays. Ability to learn and understand medical terminology.
  • Additional skills preferred: Demonstrates evidence of and a desire to continue developing leadership characteristics and behaviors.
