Overview

The Vice President, NHE Operational Finance (“VP”) is required to lead and perform duties across multiple aspects of our business, as well as serve as a key financial leader within Novant Health Enterprise and system leadership. This position is the primary operational finance leader for NHE in core and growth markets. This leader will develop and execute NHE’s financial strategy in alignment with its overall goals, including long-term financial planning, investment decisions, and capital allocation, coordinating with Novant Health finance leaders to ensure broader organizational alignment. The VP will oversee NHE financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness in all financial matters. The VP will lead financial evaluations of NHE partnerships, acquisitions, and joint ventures.

The VP will be responsible for overseeing the financial planning and operational finance activities across NHE, including but not limited to Ambulatory Surgery Centers, Urgent Care, MedQuest, outpatient pharmacy, and other partnerships and ventures. This role will also oversee growth market financial activities. This role will evaluate operational and financial impact of all physician affiliations and acquisitions. The VP will help ensure the alignment of financial and operational strategies to support growth both within NHE and across the enterprise. This role will collaborate with finance leaders across the organizations to ensure NHE strategy aligns with broader enterprise goals.

The VP will collaborate with NHE leaders and Novant Health Operational Finance team to align financial and operational strategies, making strategic decisions that drive the organization's success. This role will oversee Manager of NH Enterprises. The VP will report to the COO, NHE Ambulatory & President, NH Specialty Institutes.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate degree, required.
  • Experience: 7-10 years of professional experience; previous leadership experience, required.

    • Documented analytical skills; must be able to absorb large amounts of data; will reach sound business conclusions from the data and communicate in executive summary format.
    • Ability to find performance improvement opportunity from reviewing financial and operational metrics.
    • Financial acumen and general business savvy; will be strong financially and committed to seeing that Novant Health remains fiscally sound.
    • Strategic mindset with strong conceptual abilities; will be a planner and a thinker; will understand the “big picture” and be qualified to add value to the strategic planning process and other areas.

    • Knowledge of cost allocation methodologies, decision support systems and reporting.
    • Knowledge of net revenue algorithms and processes.
    • Leadership ability; the bent for taking responsibility, moving ahead, and encouraging others to share the vision; the qualities that inspire confidence and trust; a proactive, roll-up-the-sleeves style is a requirement.
    • Excellent communication skills; must be able to elicit the real issues and be adept at presenting his/her ideas orally and in writing.
    • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a large organization; exceptional interpersonal skill and a highly professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

    Oversee the financial performance and operational cohesion of Novant Health Enterprises (NHE)

•      Lead and manage NHE financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness in all financial matters

•      Lead and manage NHE capital allocation, including developing capital allocation strategy that aligns with the organization’s financial goals and objectives

•      Collaborate with finance leaders across the organizations to ensure NHE strategy aligns with broader enterprise goals

•       Lead the development and maintenance of financial benchmark measurements and related financial analysis

•       Be responsible for managing strategic financial and capital planning models and related analysis

•       Develop and implement financial policies and procedures that enhance operational efficiency and financial performance across the organization

•       Complete a wide variety of complex projects across various aspects of the business

 

Support major NHE transactions and partnerships

•      Evaluate potential partnerships and transactions (e.g., ASC partnership, MedQuest, joint ventures, acquisitions etc.)

•      Conduct financial analysis and modeling to evaluate investment opportunities, projects, and M&A activities

•       Oversee the financial impact of ASCs, urgent care, outpatient pharmacy, MedQuest imaging, and other strategic partnerships to ensure financial alignment and operational efficiency

•       Lead the financial due diligence and integration processes for acquisitions and partnerships, ensuring the financial health and operational success of these ventures

 

Support NHE physician affiliations in core and growth markets

•      Lead and manage the financial integration and operational impact of physician affiliations

•      Conduct comprehensive evaluation of potential affiliations and partnerships, including financial viability and operational impact to inform strategic decision-making

•      Determine how to effectively integrate and operationalize affiliations to enhance growth

 

Partner with Operational Finance on Novant Health finance activities

•      Support Market and Institute level non-threshold capital allocation process

•      Support Operational Finance month-end review process

•      Maintain Operational Finance organizational structure that supports Novant Health operating structure

•      Lead preparation of pro forma analyses for large capital projects and new physician clinic sites

•      Support market acute care facility monthly financial review process as needed

•      With other leaders, prepare, implement, and monitor financial action plans when appropriate

•      Manage the administration of NHMG physician compensation plans

•      Develop Operational Finance leadership team

•       Manage market share data and reporting capabilities

•       Provide financial leadership for development of business intelligence analytic capabilities, including incorporating predictive/prescriptive analyses into tools

•       Implement financial performance measures and monitoring systems to identify opportunities for operational improvements and cost efficiencies
