Overview

The Perinatal Health Educator Doula provides perinatal education/information to patients and families, in partnership with the OB care team within the clinic setting. The doula’s primary function is to meet pregnant women throughout their prenatal and postpartum journey, educate on clinically appropriate pregnancy topics, understand underlying socio-economic needs and connect with community resources.

The doula will also promote, organize and partner with providers to facilitate group prenatal care, allowing for opportunities to build social support among pregnant, postpartum and inter-conception women participating in the program.

This position is responsible for acting as a bridge between health care providers, community services providers, and individuals in the community to promote health, reduce disparities, and improve service delivery. May be asked to participate in community engagement events in off hours, such as an occasional evening or weekend.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree, preferred.
  • Experience: Three years of Area of specialization - Health Education, Health Promotion, Nursing, Social Work, Doula care, required.
  • Licensuree/Certification: Certified Doula, preferred.  Childbirth Education Cewrtification, preferred.
  • Additional skills required
    • Knowledge, ability and skills to support perinatal education to accommodate cultural diversity, age specific or behavioral needs among patients being served.
    • Ability to drive/travel to multiple locations/facilities as needed.
  • Additional Skills/Requirements (preferred): Experience in supporting mothers with perinatal mood disorders.
