Overview

Under the direction of the SVP, Public Affairs, the Director, Government Relations executes a comprehensive government relations, public affairs, and community relationship building strategy to create a healthier future and bring remarkable experiences to life through engagement with local, regional, state, and federal elected officials and key leaders in South Carolina.

 

Ideally, this individual will sit in Columbia, South Carolina.

Qualifications

  • Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Graduate Degree, preferred.
  • Experience: Eight to 10 years legislative, campaign and/or government relations experience, required. Healthcare issue background experience, preferred.
  • Essential Functions
  • Government relations and public affairs: In South Carolina, develops and manages relationships with key elected officials, community leaders, and organizations on the local, state, and federal levels to achieve system public policy and business development goals.
  • Directly lobbies members of the South Carolina General Assembly and local elected officials on matters of importance to Novant Health.
  • Provides legislative intelligence and recommendations to inform business development decisions and system operations. Participates in the development and implementation of cross-department strategy to develop key relationships and aligned messaging to move forward priorities.
  • Works directly with South Carolina leadership to ensure all are informed of legislative and policy movement of consequence.
  • Uses internal subject matter expertise to gather all relevant information on operational impact of legislative and regulatory proposals.
  • Delivers presentations on policy and legislative issues both internally and externally.
  • Participates in and, as appropriate, engages senior leaders to represent Novant Health in meetings with trade associations, legislative committees, local and state Chambers, issue coalitions, and other organizations that enhance relationship strength to achieve public policy goals.
  • Represents Novant Health with, among other organizations, the South Carolina Hospital Association and actively participates in SCHA Government Relations function.
    • Leadership: Provides consistent and fair oversight.
    • Communication: Creates an environment that supports and respects diversity to promote creative problem solving.
    • Business Acumen: Maintains organizational policy and procedure, including rules of conduct.
    • Quality Improvement: Demonstrates knowledge of process improvement principles and applies appropriately to improvement activities.
    • Customer Service: Holds staff accountable for customer service standards and ensures service recovery when needed.
    • Human Resources: Provides ongoing informal and formal feedback to direct reports consistent with organizational policies and procedures.
    • Financial: Manages positions within the department to achieve quality and productivity, and meet budget.
