Overview

The Senior Director, Novant Health Institutes Operations  will be accountable to the Chief Operating Officer, NHE Ambulatory & President, NH Specialty Institutes (“COO”) and serve as a strategic thought partner to ensure successful execution of institute projects and other initiatives that meet the organization’s strategic priorities. The Senior Director will support and amplify the effectiveness of the COO in overseeing Specialty Institutes, NHE ambulatory care areas, and physician expansion in core and new markets. The Senior Director works with Novant Health Institute dyad leaders at all levels to identify, define and lead/facilitate strategic or operational initiatives that support and/or align with the overall strategy. The Senior Director identifies opportunities for collaboration across teams to minimize duplication of efforts, encourage teamwork, and create efficiencies for the system. The role will be pivotal in facilitating strategic initiatives, enhancing operational efficiencies, and promoting a culture of quality, safety, and innovation.

 

The Senior Director is responsible for assigned projects/initiatives using effective project and business management practices and will maintain involvement in the work through the project lifecycle. This leader will support various leadership teams by coordination of meeting content and agenda development and by facilitating meetings, including board level agendas. The Senior Director will act as a strategic advisor, operational liaison, and key facilitator for the COO, ensuring the successful implementation of strategic visioning, recruitment, program development, and more.

 

The Senior Director will report to the COO, NHE Ambulatory & President, NH Specialty Institutes. The Senior director will be responsible for supporting and collaborating across several critical areas, including between the Specialty Institutes and the Novant Health Medical Group and Market Leaders, as well as NHE and NHMG Central Operations.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree required. (Graduate degree preferred) 
  • Experience: 5 years experience working in a healthcare administration setting. (preferred 10 years experience)

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Support Strategic Planning and Execution for the COO, NHE Ambulatory & President, NH Specialty Institutes

·         Accountable to the COO, NHE Ambulatory & President, NH Specialty Institutes and serve as a strategic thought partner to ensure successful execution of projects and other initiatives that meet the organization’s strategic priorities, including but not limited to:

o   Support Specialty Institutes program strategy and growth updates

o   Help ensure operating cohesion of NHMG Central Operations and ambulatory areas by collecting initiative updates and reporting out on progress (primary priorities will include ASCs, Outpatient Imaging, and Urgent Care; secondary priority will include Outpatient Pharmacy)

o   Help manage Novant Health Enterprises physician activities and share progress updates with the COO

o   Track activities in Triangle Market and Western North Carolina Market (Asheville) as relevant for the COO

o   Help with NHE activities project management

·         Work with Novant Health Specialty Institute leaders at all levels to facilitate strategic or operational initiatives that support and/or align with the overall strategy

·         Manages confidential and strategic projects/initiatives that are of time-sensitive importance.

·         Drives results on strategic initiatives and special projects that reinforce the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities

·         Communicates frequently with senior leaders and to monitor the status of key projects/initiatives impacting strategic priorities and provides regular updates to the COO

·         Understand and execute on strategic imperatives of the enterprise and strategic priorities across institutes

·         Connect and align distinct goals to create broader mutual benefit, reduces waste, and more effectively drives performance against strategic imperatives

·         Researches relevant best practices, trends, and industry news from the external environment and prepare analysis on new or different strategies to communicate or recommend internally as appropriate

 

Support project management and act as key facilitator

·         Participates in leadership meetings to stay informed, inform others, and maintain connectivity to initiatives overseen by the COO

·         Collect updates from relevant owners of various initiatives and activities to compile and share updates on regular basis (i.e., weekly) with NHE leaders

·         Manage agenda and facilitate weekly NHE deal team meetings

·         Track and monitor initiative progress and identifies risks and barriers to projects/initiatives, escalating concerns to the COO when needed, and proactively proposes remediation plans

·         Facilitates all components of projects/initiatives including those with the following objectives: current state/research, program development, development of business plans, enterprise standardization, strategic planning, operational excellence, patient experience progress, and program evaluation analyses

·         Support the development and management of new programs and initiatives, including planning, resource allocation, and performance evaluation, to ensure they meet strategic objectives

·         Facilitates coordination of work with functional experts such as finance, legal, human resources/people and culture, information technology/DPS, NHMG central services

·         Identifies and coordinates departmental and organizational interdependencies

·         Identifies key performance indicators that will demonstrate whether an initiative is executed successfully, as well as the plan for collecting/tracking associated data

·         Enhance operational efficiency by streamlining processes and improving communication between departments and teams

·         Oversee administrative functions and special projects as needed

 

Drive collaboration and alignment across various organizational stakeholders

·         Works collaboratively with physicians, system leadership, and market leadership teams

·         Prepares presentation content for the COO such as reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal and external meetings

·         Maintains effective communication, relationship management, a spirit of collaboration, and overall knowledge of the institute’s capabilities and functions

·         Communicates strategy and execution plans to institute leaders.

·         Communicates with leaders and front line team members in a manner appropriate for their role and level of information

·         Identifies risks and barriers to projects/initiatives, escalating concerns to senior leaders when needed

·         Participates in leadership meetings to stay informed, inform others, and maintain connectivity to initiatives within and outside Institutes and NHE

·         Advocates for a strategy to influence stakeholders. Listens, understands, and acknowledges stakeholder concerns

·         Serves as an internal consultant outside of Institutes and NHE as needed
