Coordinates and assists the provider and nursing to ensure safe quality/cost effective service and care for the people within the practice population. Provides and documents clinical care and maintenance of a safe and clean environment, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse/APP or physician. While CNA I and CNA II can work under the license of a physician or APP, they must work a minimum of 8 hours every 24 months directly supervised by an RN employed at the clinic, per the North Carolina Board of Nursing requirements for licensure, or make arrangements for them to complete this supervision at a sister NHMG clinic location.

Essential: 

-Cert Nursing Asst I


Nonessential:
-Cert Nursing Asst II
-Emergency Medical Tech

 

Education (Essential):
-High School Diploma

 

Education equivalent experience:
-High School or GED Required

 

Other information:

Experience: 2 Years Required Acute experience for CNA 1. 1 Year Preferred CNA2 or EMT.

Licensure/Certification Type (ex NP, RN, CMA): NA I in good standing within the NA registry; OR NA II in good standing with NA II certification with required state; OR EMT current credential in appropriate state required.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions • Human Experience: Show courage through creating and sharing innovative ideas to improve the experience for both patients and peers. Round on patients to create meaningful connections and keep patients informed of visit details (delays/wait times). Model the experience principles through consistently engaging in Always Event behaviors and viewing feedback through the patient lens. • Recognize and value the unique differences and similarities in both our team members and patients to create an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated. Explain all processes to patients in plain language and utilize teach back to ensure understanding. Know and model the mission, vision and values, and how they relate to role-specific responsibilities. Model our people credo through a passion to care for each other, our patients and our communities. • Patient Care: Perform and document necessary preliminary exam needs on patient to include height, weight, pulse, blood pressure, and temperature. Ensure the patient chart is complete. Interview patients to identify current medical needs and relevant patient history. Assist with examinations, treatments, special tests and procedures within scope of practice. Medication and vaccine preparation and administration are out of scope for this role. Perform and document necessary preliminary exam needs on patient to include screenings, examinations, treatments, special tests and procedures within scope of practice. • Clinical Duties: Demonstrates continual competence in clinical duties and responsibilities through annual review and completion of Clinical Care Partner UAP agreement with clinician. Notifies nurse or provider of changes in patient's condition or behavior, results of treatments, accidents, incidents, errors, and all abnormal values of patient data (such as vital signs and blood glucose). Restocks routine supplies for care team. Clean rooms and treatment areas per protocols. • Data Collection/Referrals: Code nursing visits, lab requests and procedures for billing. Verify and update patient data. Collect data from patient/family to ensure accuracy in EMR. • Clerical Duties: Assists with registration, scheduling and check-out as indicated. Greets and welcomes patient. Verifies and corrects patient demographics and updates medical insurance or payment sources. Collects and enters co-payments. Supports other duties related to front-desk and scheduling. Demonstrates the Novant Health service standards with each patient encounter and delivers remarkable customer service. • Clinical Lab Duties: Specimen collection and Testing Analysis: Performs waived point of care testing with attention to accuracy by checking patient ID and DOB. The team member understands and follows HIPAA guidelines and ensures the confidentiality of patient results. The team member documents or assists in documentation or corrective action needed for Quality assessment, Proficiency Testing and Quality Control. • Documentation: Ensures all routine, daily, monthly, and annual maintenance and QC are performed, documented and kept for the appropriate number of years. Documents results in EMR and reports results to the care team. • Teamwork and Communication: Work within a team to achieve patient and team goals. Share and initiate regular and professional communication with co-workers. Facilitate and/or participate in regular team member meetings. Works within the team to identify areas of improvement and actively participates in the improvement process. • On-going Competency: Demonstrates continual competence in clinical duties and responsibilities through annual review and completion of skills check off (based on scope of CNA I, or CNA II or EMT background) with registered nurse, annual mandatory education (AME), annual skills assessment, maintenance of basic life support, and other mandatory clinical training as indicated. Complete necessary continuing education as required by registry or certifying body in accordance to policy NHHR-3095. • Additional skills: performs venipuncture after completion of formal phlebotomy course (provided internally or externally).
