Overview

CSSO phlebotomist is responsible for performing all collection procedures. Team member is responsible for performing all specimen processing procedures. Team member is responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are followed. They will advise and assist in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software as necessary.

 

The CSSO Phlebotomist is part of a market based, float pool team that is assigned to varying facilities (float up to 3 locations) during their shift to ensure that patient care needs are met within the assigned facility. These Phlebotomists possess the skills, competency and qualifications, as well as a requirement to work in all facilities within a defined market (Greater Charlotte (GCM) or Greater Winston Salem (GWSM)). Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, Required.  Bachelor's Degree, Preferred.
  • Experience: Three years of relevant phlebotomy experience, Preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Certification by ASCP, ASPT, AMT or NHA (New hire and/or new phlebotomist must obtain certification within 6 months of hire), Required.
  • Additional Skills Required:
    • New hire and/or new phlebotomists must obtain certification within 6 months of hire. 
    • Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tasks. Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results.
    • Skilled in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skilled in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff and the public. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate clearly.
    • In some facilities the team member may have training for performing specific tasks in Anatomic Pathology. The team member may be responsible for assisting in preparation of body tissue specimens, as frozen sections, or touch prep slides or smears, for examination by pathologist, to diagnose body disfunction and malignancy. This includes the preparation of tissue specimens of human origin for diagnostic or teaching purposes and all tasks associated with that process, which includes, but is not limited to, tissue cutting, slide preparation, staining, and maintenance of stains and work areas.
