Overview

Responsible for the overall planning, development, and oversight of the Trauma Outreach & Injury Prevention Program. Educates the community about injury prevention and trauma care; to indirectly decrease death and injury by improving trauma care within the region and raises the visibility of the Trauma Center through increasing public awareness by generating positive media coverage through community outreach and education. Utilizes Trauma Registry data to identify and trend issues, develop/deliver evidence-based educational programs focused on preventing injury as well as mitigating severity of injuries that do occur and associated mortality. Engaged in extensive community interaction and includes acting as a liaison with local public health staff, other injury prevention professionals, community-based organizations, and governmental agencies. Has broad responsibility for program implementation and works with considerable independence. Collaborates with local, regional, and national partners. Participates in regional trauma education and outreach efforts.

Qualifications

  • Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Graduate Degree, preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 2-3 years experience in a trauma and/or emergency care setting, preferred. Microsoft office, PDF, and graphic programs, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current licensure/certification in healthcare, Public health, nursing, education, research and/or social work. Child Passenger Safety Technician, TNCC or ATCN, preferred.
  • Additional Skills (required):
    • Understanding of and recent experience in the healthcare environment.
    • Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions and make recommendations.
    • Knowledge of the epidemiology of injury, including health burden, risk factors, and disparities.
    • Knowledgeable of current best practice recommendations for injury prevention.
    • Strong media relations skills / high comfort level with public speaking to diverse populations.
    • Capable of effectively handling multiple priorities.
    • Ability to work independently and with diverse groups and teams.
    • Has a working knowledge of the NC state trauma database and is able to identify trauma patients on whom we collect data and abstract charts.
    • Knowledge of report writing from the trauma database.
    • Prepares reports/documentation for weekly, monthly and quarterly trauma meetings as needed.
