Radiation Oncology med surge nurses provides phase 1/ phase 2 recovery care for patients receiving high dose rate (HDR) and low dose rate (LDR)  brachytherapy radiation treatments. Nurses are expected to cross cover and  support the outpatient clinic, as needed,  for patient weekly assessment (vitals, med rec, referrals) and patient education as it relates to radiation treatments. 2nd GI is a newly remodeled 36 bed acute care unit that specializes in gastrointestinal, pancreatic, and hepatobiliary disorders.  We also treat patients with a variety of medical issues and co-morbidities as well as those requiring both pre and post procedural and operative care.  This is a fast-paced unit facilitating lots of teamwork!  We have an amazing interdisciplinary team that includes Physicians, Dieticians, Social Workers, Clerical and Support staff which empowers us as a unit to provide a remarkable experience for those we care for.  2nd GI fosters a great learning environment and opportunity to grow as a professional in healthcare. NHFMC Neurosciences Unit is a 43-bed acute inpatient unit dedicated to the care of patients with stroke and other neurological and neurosurgical disorders, with 33 medical telemetry beds, 6 medical surgical beds, and 4 intermediate level epilepsy monitoring beds. Our unit Average Length of Stay is 4.7 days and the average patient age is 65.6. Adult patients who are 18 years of age or older are accepted to this unit. Patients for Epilepsy Monitoring must be 18 years of age or older. Care Delivery Method Services are provided by trained and competent team members. Clinical oversight, feedback and direct supervision are provided by Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) as well as a Nurse Manager who is 24 hour accountable operationally for team member performance and patient care. Nursing care is delivered using a staffing model of 5:1 for RN ratio and 7:1 for CNAs’ ratio, depending on the unit census. Starting November of 2022 we will also be serving patients post bariatric surgery. These patients will be 24 observation with BMI of less than 55.  We have a heart failure navigator who provides exceptional education to our newly diagnosed heart failure patients and to provide reeducation to chronic heart failure patients.  Nurses, certified nursing assistance, and medical unit receptionist work together to ensure patient needs are met. We work with case management, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, a nutritionist  and other ancillary depts. to provide the remarkable patient experience. An experienced RN is preferred but we are able to train on the job.  Someone who is inquisitive and detail oriented are key skill we look for in a potential team member.  Another asset we look for in perspective team members are those who are team players, outgoing, and those who are able to function mostly self-supported.  Our team utilizes an interdisciplinary approach with collaboration from Healthcare Providers, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, Physical and Occupational Therapies, and Nursing support.  We serve a population that includes but is not limited to sepsis, diabetes, various degrees of renal failure, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with non-invasive respiratory support, stable tracheostomy tubes not requiring mechanical ventilation, and those needing a vasoactive medication.  Our preferred ratio is 3:1 but we do flex to 4:1.  Our mission is to improve the health of communities, one person at a time by delivering the most remarkable patient experience, in every dimension, every time.

Let Novant Health be the destination for your professional growth.   Medication Nurses (Med Pass RNs) are RNs who help clinical nurses on a designated unit with administering oral, SQ, IM and IV medications. They do not need to have recent bedside experience. Medication Nurses usually work shortened shifts during heavy medication pass times.. This assistance relieves the RN to focus on patient assessments, care plans, education, and discharges. Medication Nurses will receive specific training that will focus on all aspects of the medication administration process and work with a nurse on passing medications prior to working more independently.
