Our intermediate patient population mostly consists of post-operative cardiothoracic surgery & structural heart patients. This patient population includes open heart surgery & thoracotomy patients POD 1, TAVR & VATS surgeries from PACU, and esophagogastrectomy patients. This patient population requires the nurse to maintain a-lines, titratable gtts, BIPAP, trachs, heated high flow, epidurals & PCAs, temporary epicardial pacemakers, blake drains, chest tubes, etc. The cardiothoracic surgery patients downgrade to cardiac telemetry on the unit during their post-op recovery & stay with us until discharge home, accounting for the cardiac telemetry patient population on the unit.  In addition, we also take overflow cardiac and medical intermediate patients. Nurse: patient ratios for intermediate patients vary from 1: 3-4. Bedside monitors in all rooms.   Our unit is known for providing exceptional patient care, as reflected in our high patient satisfaction scores, and we are known for how well we mobilize our patients.   Our nurses require high-level critical thinking skills and cardiac knowledge that allows them to confidently care for their patients in a fast-pace environment.   #nursingatnovanthealth

We operate on a 2:1 ratio but may flex to 3:1 if needed for 1:1's. We service all stroke types, as well as seizures and other neurological disorders. - We are a comprehensive stroke center and take care of large strokes and provide interventions. - We specialize in ICP monitoring including EVD’s and bolts. - Our Neuro ICU handles post-operative patients for brain and back surgeries, placing EVD’s at the bedside, taking overflow patients from other ICUs, and operate CRRT’s. What makes our unit different?   - We have provider coverage in the unit 24/7. - Our team leader operates out-of-coverage each shift as well as a stroke nurse. - Our rapid responder works out of coverage and responds to all code strokes in the emergency department (ED) as well as house-wide. An experienced RN is preferred but we are able to train on the job.  Someone who is inquisitive and detail oriented are key skill we look for in a potential team member.  Another asset we look for in perspective team members are those who are team players, outgoing, and those who are able to function mostly self-supported.  Our team utilizes an interdisciplinary approach with collaboration from Healthcare Providers, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, Physical and Occupational Therapies, and Nursing support.  We serve a population that includes but is not limited to sepsis, diabetes, various degrees of renal failure, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with non-invasive respiratory support, stable tracheostomy tubes not requiring mechanical ventilation, and those needing a vasoactive medication.  Our preferred ratio is 3:1 but we do flex to 4:1.  Our mission is to improve the health of communities, one person at a time by delivering the most remarkable patient experience, in every dimension, every time.

Come join a remarkable team where quality care meets quality service, in every dimension, every time.   About the Unit   6 Cardiac ICCU at Forsyth Medical Center is a 21 bed mixed cardiac-intermediate telemetry unit. Our intermediate patient population mostly consists of post-operative cardiothoracic surgery & structural heart patients. This patient population includes open heart surgery & thoracotomy patients POD 1, TAVR & VATS surgeries from PACU, and esophagogastrectomy patients. This patient population requires the nurse to maintain a-lines, titratable gtts, BIPAP, trachs, heated high flow, epidurals & PCAs, temporary epicardial pacemakers, blake drains, chest tubes, etc. The cardiothoracic surgery patients downgrade to cardiac telemetry on the unit during their post-op recovery & stay with us until discharge home, accounting for the cardiac telemetry patient population on the unit.  In addition, we also take overflow cardiac and medical intermediate patients. Nurse: patient ratios for intermediate patients vary from 1: 3-4.
